Kane County Town Hall Meeting:

5:00-6:00 TODAY!

Learn About April 1 Sales Tax Referendum

Dundee Township Building, 611 E Main St Suite 201, East Dundee, IL 60118
Representatives of the Kane County Board will host a public meeting to present educational information regarding the proposed Special County Retailer’s Occupation Tax Referendum.
The Kane County Board has approved placing a measure on the April 1, 2025, election ballot asking voters whether or not to establish a 0.75% sales tax dedicated exclusively for funding essential public safety services. Those services include the Sheriff’s Office, State’s Attorney, Public Defender, Coroner, Circuit Clerk, KaneComm 911, Public Health, and the Office of Emergency Management.

The proposed sales tax would add 75 cents per $100 spent on applicable retail purchases in Kane County, with exemptions for essential items groceries, prescription medications or licensed vehicles. It is not a property tax.

The revenue generated from this tax would be allocated to support public safety initiatives, such as:

  • Supporting law enforcement and emergency response services.
  • Upgrading public safety technology and infrastructure.
  • Enhancing emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
  • Expanding programs to address drug overdoses, neglect, and abuse.

The meeting will follow a town hall format, allowing attendees to ask questions and provide feedback.
