What can you do to help our Immigrant Neighbors and Defend our Democracy?

Elgin Area Immigration Alliance

is comprised of 4 separate local organizations:

  • CWC (Chicago Workers Collaborative)
  • Centro de Informacion
  • the YWCA
  • Casa Michochoan

The Alliance meets regularly and is collectively working to support affected immigrants with aid and information through various community channels like schools and businesses.

They also work with ICIRR (Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights) which runs a Family Support Hotline (FSN – 855-435-7693) for all types of immigrant emergencies, including ICE sightings: see Family Support Network & Hotline | ICIRR

The Alliance recommends using the FSN number as the most effective way to report ICE sightings.

The Alliance reported ~ 300 ICE sightings and ~ 50 detentions in Elgin for the month of September. If you are interested in getting more involved in immigrant aid, there are a number of low risk ways you can provide support, such as volunteering at Centro food pantry or their offices, attending local city council and school board meetings, and becoming a school observer at drop off and pick up times (next school observer training is October 23 at Centro).
